the power of music

Isn’t it amazing how certain songs can make you feel such strong emotions? I’m sure it’s happened to all of us one time or another. You’re walking along, minding your own business. You’ve got your earphones on and your iPod conveniently on shuffle when ‘that’ song starts to play. Even the very first beat, the very first note gives you goose bumps. It makes you freeze and it throws you back to the past without any warning.

It could take you back to a very happy moment in your life. Living by the edge, walking by the busy highway with your brother with nothing to separate you from the zooming cars, or those countless epic moments of your high school life and all the stupid things you used to do with your best friends. These songs will have you smiling like an idiot all day and singing along cheerfully.

But it could also take you back to a sad time in your life. A fallout between two good friends, the passing away of a beloved relative or the one that got away. These songs will leave you a little melancholy but can also make you appreciate the present.

Some songs might represent neutral things. It can remind you of a certain movie, game, novel or (as I like to read when I have a few hours to kill) manga.

Either way, music will touch you in an incredible way and every time you hear that song, no matter when, where or how, the exact same feelings always comes back. And that, I think, is the real power of music.
