[comic] – so not a morning person

If I ever voluntarily wake up at 8:00 am or earlier for you, just know that you must be a really special person to me because as you can see from the comic above, not even my desire to have a bikini body can get me out of bed in the morning.

Maybe the reason I struggle so much with waking up early is because I’m a big time night owl; I’m just so much more productive after 8:00 pm, which usually means I don’t get to sleep till waaay past midnight. Considering that, it’s no surprise that I don’t get up till 11:00 am the next day.

I know this is a really bad habit that throws my whole body clock out of rhythm, but I just can’t seem to help it. Anyone have any advice on how to be a morning person?

  1. I am more of a morning person than anything else, but go through periods when I’m more of a night owl. Unless the night owl thing is causing you issues in terms of not getting done what you need to or you have early morning commitments (like a job to get to), maybe it’s best to just work within your natural rhythm.

    1. well, my job doesn’t really start till 2:00 pm so that’s not an issue. But I have heard that your natural body clock demands that we sleep and get proper rest between a certain time period and that continuous late nights can be harmful for you in the long run, so obviously I am more concerned about the long term effect of being a night owl.

  2. I don’t think there is anything particularly righteous about getting up early. That’s an urban myth started by insomniacs. It’s all about what you do when you’re awake, not when you are awake.

  3. Rather than “wind down” at the end of your day (as most “sleep experts” would recommend), try this:
About an hour before you normally go to bed, start reading a technical book – for example, a physics textbook – and see if you can knock yourself out at an earlier time toward the end of getting up at an earlier time. Good luck.

I myself am a night owl too, but if there something necessary which needs to be done the early morning hours I manage it out. No offence but if deep down we have a desire or want to do something we make things happen. I may suggest you to try and sleep little early each day and try and wake up the same way little early than the previous day who knows you may be able to get the perfect bikini body you are aiming for 🙂

  5. I am a night owl AND I have to wake early for work. I start at 8am and have two hour commute!

Let’s just say I am tired the majority of the time.

You will wake early if you are required to. Make early morning appointments then you will be forced to wake early.

    1. I agree with you, whenever I have morning appointments I always somehow manage to get up on time. I don’t particularly enjoy it but I’ve always managed it. I guess if I’m forced to wake up early every morning my body will soon get used to it and maybe I won’t hate it as much.
